How To Be Productive With Your home based Business Opportunity Online

The Internet is one of the best things to ever happen to the work from home entrepreneur, but it has it’s demons too.  All we need to do is open up google into a browser, type in a keyword and shazam…there are 3 million postings for the information we are seeking.

With your online business opportunity it is essential to learn the skills to get YOUR message on the front page of that search from google.  That is a subject for another day.  Today I want to talk about the demons of internet marketing and how to be productive with your online business.

The big question is how to keep from being distracted from and wasting your time.

While working at home we have numerous distractions.  While being in our home environment we have the comforts of home, the family, the friends, the TV, the radio, the home phone etc.  It is important to treat your home office like a real office and separate yourself from all the distractions.

I want to share with you the most powerful strategy I use for being productive with your online business.  It is important to start your day off properly with your own personal success ritual.

Productivity Tips and Strategies (Start Your Day Off Right)

Tip:  Clean out your closet.  Getting rid of all unnecessary items can not only free up the clutter in your house, but it can also free up the clutter in your mind.

How to Start Your Day Off Right

I’ve recently discovered a method of creating your personal success ritual.   A ritual is a customary observance or practice.  In other words, starting off your day the same way everyday.   Making this a habit can have lasting benefits.  I’m going to share with you a strategy that I use daily, that gives me a ton of energy throughout the day and clears my mind, so I can work on the most productive and the most profitable tasks for that day.

“Wake Up Productive”

I learned this strategy from Eben Pagan in his program “Wake up Productive”.  It is called “your daily success ritual”.  The best way to explain the method is to share with you what I do daily.  You can make certain tweeks to this to suite your life.

Key Points to YOUR success Ritual:

  • Wake up an hour earlieryoga1
  • Water intake
  • half hour to 45 minutes of exercise
  • 10 minutes of meditation to clear your mind
  • Review the most important tasks for the day
  • Proper nutrition (blueberry protein shake)
  • Shower and begin your marketing

I wake up everyday about an hour earlier than normal.  (I can hear the groans now, but trust me, once you get used to it, you will have much more energy throughout the day)  I immediately drink a glass of water to re-hydrate my body.  I then head to the bathroom, brush my teeth, wash my face and then get my workout clothes on.

The exercise you do is up to you, as long as you get a half hour to 45 minutes of a good sweat.  You may not feel like it the first few days, but exercise gives you a ton of energy to have a successful day.  It is important to do this first thing in the morning.

Tip:  Since the theme of this post is productivity I find the most productive and time saving workout comes from a concept called Nextfit

After my exercise I go to a quiet place, close my eyes and clear my mind.  Meditation was a strange concept for me at first and I have to admit I had a hard time doing it for the entire 10 minutes.  Now that I’m used to it, it is one of the most effective ways to clear your mind of all the clutter and have a productive, targeted day.

Tip:  While meditating just focus on your breathing.  Clear your mind of the hundreds of random thoughts that bombard you.  Deep breath in…pause…and release.

The next thing I do is grab my goal journal.  I learned this tip from Brian Tracy.  I took some time to figure out what my 10 most important goals and accomplishments I wanted to achieve this year.  I spend a few minutes writing out these 10 goals for the year, EVERYDAY.  I then review an emotional attachment that I have to these goals.

It is important that you write out what those goals mean to you on an emotional level.  If there is no emotional tie to them chances are you wil NOT acheive that goal.  Let me give you an example.

“I want to make a ton of money this year.”  vs. “Replace my income so I can travel the country in my RV to warm climates in the winter months, and spend summers with my extended family on our lake house in Michigan.”  Which one is more specific?  Which one has more emotional appeal?

The last thing I do in my success ritual is blend a protein shake and then take a shower.  I now have a ton of energy, my mind is focused, and I’m ready to have a productive day.  It takes about 14 days to get some momentum.  It takes a good 30 days to make this a ritual, or a habit.

Tip:  Buy yourself a digital timer or cooking timer.

Use the timer to break your tasks into chunks of time.  Let’s say you are going to start your day with some twitter strategies.  It is easy to get caught up and distracted on social media sites.  A good way to avoid this is to use the timer.  I shut off my cell phone, close the email, and focus on one task at hand.

I chunk my day into 50 minute time slots.  Once the timer goes off, I walk away from my computer and take a 10 minute break.  I then start my next 50 minute task.

You will find that even if you only have one hour per day to market due to time constraints…this method will make you ten times more productive than just turning on your computer and winging it.

To your success my friends.

I’m looking forward to your comments and questions.

    Hey Nick,
I totally appreciate your content and tips. I need these ideas and reminders constantly, because it is so easy to spiral out of control and forget things that can ultimately help me to feel better and be more productive. Looking forward to your next post, my friend!

Thanks, I really love the mention on chunking your day into 50 minute time slots. With enough discipline and attention to this practice I can see a real benefit for establishing greater measures on your productivity… and especially for generating good habit.

    Nick,
Wow! Excellent tips. You are right, I did groan at the “get up one hour earlier thought…” but I see the benefit of this practice. I already do a couple of the things you suggested, so getting up earlier to do a couple more (that I need to be doing anyway) is a good plan. I like the thought of “waking up productive”. Appreciate the value you give here. I’m gonna go prepare for that early morning wake up now. :-)
