Finding Strength In Adversity…A True Story

August 5th, 2010 by Nick Logan

Overcoming Adversity

Have you ever been completely kicked in the teeth?  Have you ever been fired, or laid off from your job?  Have you ever experienced a devastating loss of a friend.  An unexpected death or loss of the love of your life?

Sometimes we can find strength through adversity.  We all have experienced some devastating things in life.  That is just how life works.  How you deal with it is the key.  Sometimes these events come one at a time. Sometimes they come all at once.

I want to share with you a personal story that completely took the wind out of my sail.  I was down for the count for quite some time.  I could not eat.  I could not sleep.  I could not function.

I know that others have had far more serious events occur in their life.  I assure you I feel for you.  It never helps to hear from your friends and family, that

“Things happen for a reason.”  Or “You will find this as a blessing in the end.”

Your friends mean well, but sometimes there is nothing that anybody can say to help.

Finding Strength In Adversity

Like I said before, I know there are people out there who are much worse off.  I will tell you that recent events in my life, completely knocked me out of commission for several days.  Have you ever experienced that?

My recent personal story and what I did to dig myself out of that pit.  So what did I do?  After several days of not moving, not eating, not sleeping, and quite literally not functioning, I decided to focus on the one area in my life that I had control over.

So what happened?  I was a helicopter pilot by trade.  I guess I still am, but I am not currently employed.  I received a phone call from my company that would change the direction of my life.  Quite possibly the best thing that ever happened to me.  I was informed in this phone call that the company “No longer needed my services.”
Wow!!  Big shock, but I was not all that upset about it.  I knew this would be the kick in the pants to really get things going with my business.  I was also looking forward to working on my relationship.  Being away from your loved ones can really take a toll on any relationship.  You see, with my job I was away for two weeks a month.  I was in Arizona working for two weeks straight and home for two weeks straight.

I knew my business was going well…not quite to the point of retirement, but I knew this was a huge opportunity all the way around.  Within a couple of days, all hell broke loose in my life.  3 days later, I lost what I considered the love of my life.  This also meant I lost what I considered my home.  And the worst part of it is, this whole thing was entirely my fault.  I didn’t realize it at the time…but the way I was living my life pushed away those I cared about most.  It was only a matter of time.

So, as I said I was really looking forward to this opportunity.  Then the walls came crashing down.  No home, no income security from a job a really liked, and no more comfort and inspiration from the one person I looked to, to inspire me.  Like I said, I could not function.  If you know me, I am typically someone to look to for inspiration.   I Mr. Positive.  I always look at the opportunities, the possibilities, the lesson, in any adversity.

I shocked myself because I could not seem to look at anything in the world from the “glass is half full” department.

So onto the solution.  I finally picked myself up, dusted myself off, and decided to focus on the one thing I could control.  I needed a place to live.  Thankfully I have some support from family members who took me in temporarily, just until I could function again.

Staying with your parents at age 38 in a huge blow to your ego.  Not only could I not function, but I was out of my environment that I have worked so well in for quite some time.  I had screaming grandchildren, running all over.  There were toys everywhere.  No real privacy to do the things I needed to do to get myself back on my feet.  I know there are solutions out there, if you look for them, but I was not in the right mind frame at the time.

I smile now, because I know that I am back on track and things are/will be not only OK, but even better than ever.  I have decided that I am NOT ever going back to work for somebody else.  Watch this video.  I started focusing on the one thing that I can control and that is my destiny.

I know there are a lot of people out there suffering.  I feel for you.  I really do.  I also know that there are a lot of people out there taking charge of their own destiny so they don’t have to face the dreaded conversation of “We no longer need your services.”

I also know that it takes time to build a very successful long term business.  What is needed most is cash to fund your business and to invest in your future.  I want to share with you exactly how I pulled myself out of the biggest pit I’ve ever been in.  I started with the one thing that could really get my life back on track and that is income to survive.  Not only to thrive, but to survive.  When you are seeking solutions, they come at you like never before.

The rest of the stuff will work it self out eventually…but I had no choice but to take massive action, and this is exactly how I did it.  Check it out here.

New Year Inspiration For 2010

December 28th, 2009 by Nick Logan

Do you need a New Year Inspiration?  As new years eve approaches, it’s natural to reflect on the previous year and start thinking, and dreaming of what we would like to accomplish in the next year coming up.  Some people get the pen and paper out and make a list of new years resolutions.

What are your biggest successes this year?  What are you most proud of this year?  What memories make you smile from the past year?

What are your new years resolutions?  Do they have to do with quitting something, or do they have to do with losing something?  Is your new years resolution in line with your true passion, or is it to live in the moment?  In other words, are you truly doing what you are meant to do in this world?  Are you living your passion?  Do you know what your passion is?

rockclimbHave you ever thought about your legacy?  Have you ever thought about what life would be like if you weren’t here.  I used to think I would live forever.  Over the past few years, life events have forced me to examine that illusion.  (At least on this planet).

I’ve experienced the death of two people who have touched my life to the core.  Each one of them died way before their time.  This forced me to examine whether or not I was on the right path.  It forced to ask myself if I was enjoying my life or was I waiting until everything was perfect.  I realized I was working so hard on the future that I forget to enjoy the present.

How to Balance The Present With The Future?

There is no future.  There is only the present.  Does that mean we sit around and smoke pot, get smashed and go snowboarding all day?  For some people, maybe it does mean that.  Trust me, I have my days where I celebrate and party.  But what about the nagging question of a better future?  If we want a better future, there are some things we have to do to ensure that future will come true.

It is a balance.  My problem used to be that I would only think of the future.  I would sacrifice for a better life, more money, a better lifestyle.  I wasn’t enjoying the present.  The true trick is that you can have happiness in the present by wrapping yourself in the things that truly make you happy.  If you are lucky enough to wake up every day and integrate your passions into your work and thus your future, I applaud you.

If you are not “lucky” enough to have that, when would now be a good time to do that?  When would NOW be a good time to live your passion?

If You were Given $10 Million Dollars and 10 years to Live?

WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH YOUR LIFE???

moneyOk, so now we know the exact day we are going to die and we have plenty of resources to do exactly what we would like to do daily with our lives.  Most people when asked that question, know exactly what they would do with their lives.

They also know exactly what inspires them.  The reality is that most people are not living the life that reflects what their true passions are.  It is natural to think of all things you would buy if you had enough money.

There is nothing wrong with treating yourself with nice things, especially when you work so hard to earn them.  But what really makes us happy is being fulfilled.

So how do you integrate your passion with your work and balance the present and the future?  I’m not sure what your passions are.  I would love to hear them in the comments section of this blog.  The only way for me to express how I’ve worked out the balance between living in the present and planning for the future is with my story.

After several years I have found a way to integrate my passions with my daily work.  It is not as difficult as it may seem in the world of the Internet.  I heard somewhere that 2010 is “The year of the Entrepreneur.”  I believe that in my heart.  You can have your cake and eat it too.

I was always trying to make a ton of money so I could go after my dreams and live the lifestyle I felt I deserved.  I learned that approach is backwards.  (At least it was for me).  My dad always told me to go “do what you love and the money will follow.”  I never listened until finally it sunk in.

helicopterI have always wanted to fly.  As a teenager I visited an aviation school and I let the price tag discourage me.  I went onto college and graduated with a bachelors of arts.  This piece of paper allowed to have my dream job waiting tables at Chili’s.  (Sarcasm).  I was at a really low point in my life, and my dad sent me some tapes from Tony Robbins.  I was listening to the goal setting session and Tony asked…”have you ever wanted to fly a helicopter?”

Why yes… I have ALWAYS wanted to fly helicopters.  I wrote that goal down and planted the seed.  A few years later that dream became a reality.  I sold all my things, moved across country to go to school to become a helicopter pilot.  I basically bought myself a job.  Don’t get me wrong.  It is one of the greatest jobs in the world, but it is still a job.

With a mountain of school debt, I knew I had to start some sort of business if I wanted to live the lifestyle I knew I deserved.  Again, I went about this all wrong and made a ton of mistakes UNTIL….

Until I finally listened to my dad’s advice…”Do what you love and the money will follow.”

How does this relate to $10 Million Dollars and 10 Years to Live?

To make a long story, even longer, I was finally able to integrate my true passion into my daily work and my business.  I am a Coach and Trainer at heart.  If I learn something I have a need to share it with the world.  I finally figured out that there is a formula for success.  I always knew this formula, but it wasn’t until I saw this post by Jonathan Budd that it really clicked home for me.

The formula:  Knowledge + Skills + Mentality/Heart + a Network = Massive Success.

Only a few people will bring to the table the proper mentality with a heart to give back.  That is an essential ingredient to the success formula.  When you give back, when you are a “Go-Giver”, you have the proper ingredients for the rest of the success formula.  If you are reading this far, you probably have the right mentality to hear about the rest of the success formula.

I realized I had to get some knowledge and get the skills to attract success into my life.  After 10 years approaching my business all wrong, I finally got the skills and the knowledge to attract success into my life.  The past few years I took my online education serious.  I buried myself in every training I could get my hands on.  While taking action on those strategies I got an even bigger education.

I was able to wrap this entire formula into my passion.  I was able to be a coach and trainer at heart and empower other people.  I found that the money rewards are great, but what really gets my juices going is being able to empower others with the knowledge, the skills, and the network to attract massive success.  Those that are attracted to my teaching already bring the proper mentality with the heart to give back.

It is amazing seeing my students grasp the skills of social media marketing, like how to twitter and gain massive exposure through tribe syndication.  What really gets my juices flowing  is seeing them thrive, and improve.  Seeing them believe in themselves because they finally have the skills to actually make money online.

Notice I did not talk about one crucial element of the success formula.  That is your network.   Even though I had all the skills to make a living online, it wasn’t until I implemented the concepts of  Tribe Syndication (your network), that my business took off.
