Hi Clifton,

Thanks for your feedback, i got the share thingy figured out, and it works. :), but i got a better idea after figuring it out. An easier one actually.

I thought of actually modifying the share button to fetch the name from facebook, importing it into the url of my domain then the share goes out.

Step1: User clicks share(From mydomain)

Step2: Share button fetches the name from facebook, inserts it into the url. E.g:- http://www.domain.com/?ref=gopi.namasvayam

Step3: Facebook share box pops out (Type in whats in your mind) Click share and share is posted to my facebook wall.

This will enable the link to be shared with http://www.domain.com/?ref=gopi.namasvayam , so when anyone who clicks on this link is taken to my website and the gopi.namasivayam is inserted into the introducer text box.

This way i would have all the introducer column filled out all the time.

Hello Gopster,

I had to read through your comment a few times to try and understand the scenario you were describing.

Depending on which code you are using to display your Share button, you will add your /ref=gopi to the URL.

For example...<a href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php" rel="nofollow">Share</a>

Notice that the value of share_url is my domain with ref=gopi appended to it. So when that link is shared on Facebook, it will have the ref=gopi query string attached.

Please make sure you have the Facebook JS library still installed. It should already be there if you have a Share button now.

Just let me know if you have any questions. Send me an email from my blog or look me up on Facebook http://facebook.com/cliftonhatfield

Well that is a great question. I will pass that onto http://cliftonhatfield.com

Clifton is the creator of this blogging platform which pretty much makes this blog post obsolete. He is the genius behind

http://empoweredblogs.com

I will pass this note onto him---> In the meantime, check out his blog. He may have a solution for you.

Hi,

How can i modify the share button script to be added to my web page, but with reference capabilities.

Scenario:

Currently my website has the share button. I want this share button, when clicked; a box should pop up asking to enter his of her name.

Then when the name has been entered, the sharing would be posted on FB. The link should be having my name on it.

e.g: http://www.domain.com/ref=gopi

The reason why i want this is because, on the website there is a inquiry form, where when users visit this website and they seem interested to know more, they could fill out the inquiry form.

The problem is users who fill out the inquiry form sometimes forget to fill out the introducer information, and this has caused the leads to go to anybody, coz we don't know who is it from.

So if anyone who clicks on the shared link with the example address (http://www.domain.com/ref=gopi), on my webpage the name gopi is automatically inserted into the introducer column.

Hope to get a reply soonest, and have a great day.

Please also advice if you don't understand the scenario. It's more like affiliate marketing the links.

Hey Nick,

Looking forward to meeting you in San Diego soon. Great post, thanks for the tip. I've been using Facebook Share plugin for a while and it works great. Fortunately my template seems to work fine with it, but I'll share your video on my Facebook page.

Are you on Skype? Mine is gavmountford - lets connect soon if possible as I'd like to speak with you before San Diego,

Thanks
Gavin

Hi Nick,
Thanks for sharing this simple yet important post about customizing different elements of our blogs. As a relative newbie to the Tribe and to creating an attractive blog, it is so nice to know that fellow Tribe members are willing to share their tips on how to make our blogs really pop.
Hey Nick! Thanks for sharing the tip. It is good to see that changing some of the other settings helps. I didn't have the time to play with mine when I added it so I just put my on the bottom of my post. It will help me to move it sooner now that I know some of the tricks.
