Blogging For Beginners… “Giving Away The Farm”

Give Away The Farm
What is the Best Advice I can give in reference to Blogging for Beginners?
I was getting out of work today and I noticed one of my co-workers had a new T-Shirt on from our company. I immediately asked…”Where did you get that?”

He mentioned they are giving them away FREE in the lobby. It’s amazing how people jump at the chance to get FREE stuff.

Josh and "Bumpa"

Josh and "Bumpa.

I found myself digging through the boxes of FREE T-Shirts.  I grabbed a long sleeve T, and several short sleeve T’s including a size small for my nephew Josh.  That’s Josh with my dad before football practice.  No he doesn’t have black teeth.  That’s a mouthpiece.

It doesn’t matter how much money people make, they love free stuff.  Have you ever seen those mascots at basketball games shooting FREE T-Shirts out some sort of a gun?  People go nuts over a $3 Free T-shirt.  Free Samples at Costco, Free sandwich at the local deli when you fill out your punch card…it goes on and on…

“Free is the Magic Number”

When it comes to Blogging, the best advice I could give for Blogging for Beginners is to give away as much free information as possible.  It is important to wrap your blog around something you are passionate about.  Whatever that is, talk about it and think about what other people in that niche would be interested in getting for free.

Give away a free report, a free video, a free interview with someone of authority, a free consultation…Use your imagination.

The Money is in the Follow Up

The biggest mistake I see people doing on the internet when it comes to video marketing, blogging for cash, and internet marketing in general, is the dreaded “Will you marry me?”

You don’t ask someone to marry you on the first date do you?  Why would we do that with our marketing efforts?  The secret is to give away the farm every single day.  Give away your secrets, give away tips, give away your knowledge and skills.  Nobody is going to buy from you or even follow you on your blog or social media sites unless they can trust you.

How do you gain trust?  You give your best stuff.  If you dedicate yourself daily to giving away valuable information day in and day out, people will want to come back to your blog daily.  They will look for your videos.  They will look for an opportunity to opt into your FREE information.

The money is in the follow up.  The next step is to build your list.  Once you have gained trust by being a “Go-Giver” you now have permission to get a name and email address.

Now, is it time to sell, sell, sell?

The answer is no.  So what do you provide your email list.  90% valuable information and 10% sales copy.  To see how this process works Check out the step by step process of how I did this.  I put together a valuable set of video marketing tutorials based around this keyword… Download Free affiliate marketing video tutorials
If you are looking for video marketing tutorials or want to see how this entire process works click on that link above…

How The Process Works

One thing I am passionate about and like to share with my followers is Video Marketing Concepts and Video Editing.  I put together a series of IMovie Tutorials.  I created a video capture page and put that link on each of the video tutorials.  That way when people see the videos out there on youtube, blog posts, twitter, facebook, or wherever…they have the opportunity to go to a page and opt- in to get all the video tutorials…It is valuable for viewers to have information they are interested in all in one place vs. having to search all over the internet to find their specific information.

So when someone sees a piece of information that is valuable to them, they want more of the same.  Once they opt into my video capture page, they are immediately redirected to a page that has all of my video tutorials on one page.  The viewer now has the information they are looking for and I have their name and email.

Remember the money is in the follow up.  Your list is your “Internet Real Estate.”  It is important to follow up with this list and continue to provide valuable information.  Remember 90% value and 10% Sales copy.  This may seem complicated, but I recommend you go through the process by signing into my video capture page and see how it works for your own eyes.  You can blatantly copy this method…

  1. Do a series of tutorial videos or blog posts
  2. Put all of those trainings on one page
  3. Create a Video Capture Page
  4. Start driving traffic to that capture page
  5. Create a series of auto-responders using Getresponce or Aweber
  6. Repeat Steps 4-6

    Hi Nick,
thanks for providing valuable information. People crave free information, but free without being valuable will backfire sooner or later because people still need to invest their time.
    Take care

Absolutely Oliver. We are living in the “Thank You” Age. Whether you are Coke, or Mercedes, or Nick Logan, you have to
      1) Provide a ton of value and 2) Listen to your customers, and followers.

People have short attention spans and their time is valuable. Those that provide the most value will prosper.

The question is, how can you help your reader, your video viewer, or your customer be successful? My success, has nothing to do with the equation.

Which of your video series is your most popular because I’d like to subscribe? While in theory I totally agree that the money is in each of our lists, but how many lists are we all apart of and is it realistic to think everybody is always going to stay on these lists?

    Thx for your input

    • Posted by Nick Logan on June 28, 2010 at 9:28 am

Hey Jeff, thanks for stopping by. To answer your question about which video series in this blog post to sign up with…it depends on what you are looking for.

If you are interested in learning how to use video to market your own products or affiliate products I would recommend clicking on the link that says “I Movie Tutorials”…

If you are interested in learning the exact step by step process of using your blog to monetize your passion, I recommend opting into the “101 Blogging Tips” on the right side bar.

As far as building a list…No it is not realistic to think that everyone will stay on your list. As a matter of fact the first 7 days are the most important. If you are not considered a valuable source of information, where the reader can’t wait to see your next email, then they probably won’t stay past the first email.

So your job is to provide a ton of value. You will reach only a handful of people who are looking for the exact information you are providing. You must continue to build your list daily.

Big Hitters in the online industry say that each person on your list is worth an average of $1 if you are doing things right. So if you have 30,000 people on your list, you will average $30,000 monthly income. So how fast can you get to 1000? How fast can you get to 30,000?

The key is you MUST provide VALUE
