New WordPress Plugins For An Effective Blogging Experience
A Quick Condensed List To Start With…
1. Contact Form 7
Contact Form 7 allows you to add a contact form that you might want to use on your “Contact Me” page. It has some advanced features, like adding CATPCHA to ward off computerized spammer comments.
2. Akismet
This is an essential wordpress plugin. It filters through your comments to and separates comments that seem to be spam like ads from people selling viagra etc. You can still allow those comments, it just separates them and makes you aware of potential spammy comments…
3. Viper’s Video Quicktags
This allows you to add videos to your blog without going to the html tab. You simply copy and paste the url from Viddler, Youtube and othere video sites, and your blog has your personalized video in the body of your blog text. You can do this from the html tab, but for those that do not want to mess with html this is a great plugin
4. What Would Seth Godin Do (WWSGD)
Seth Godin is the author of “Tribes”. He is one of the top marketers on the planet. He advises the big boys… Google being one example. This wordpress plugin was not created by Seth, but it takes advantage of his philosophy. This plugin shows customized messages based on how many times the visitor has come to your site. You can say something like “Thanks for coming back to my blog. Be sure to subscribe to my blog updates.”
5. LinkWithin
This add pictures from your recent posts which allows for people to click on the picture to go directly to that post. Very Cool wordpress plugin.
6. Tweetmeme
Essential plugin to make your blog go viral. A small button is placed on your blog posts, pages, or both that says “Retweet”. This provides social proof to your blog and allows people twitter followers to see your blog too! The more traffic the better.
7. Sexybookmarks
Bookmarking is another social media source that allows people to book mark a page that they like, to allow them to come back. Bookmarking has other advantages. People have friends at their bookmarking sites. They like to see what other people are viewing. In addition this creates back links to your blog. Google likes that.
8. Ultimate Google Analytics
It’s important to stay on top of your statistics. I don’t visit this everyday, but it is good to know what is working and what is not. You can see which posts are the most popular. You can learn a lot from your stats.
9. Exclude Pages
I use this in combination with “comment redirect” When someone comments, I redirect them to an exclude page. (meaning it’s not in the navigation)…It’s only for those people you want to thank for commenting, thank for tweeting, etc. I also use this in combination with viral tweets.
10. Comment Re-direct
See Above. I put a video on an “exclude page” to thank them for commenting. People really appreciate the extra touch on your blog.
11. Top Commentators
This is a competitive wordpress plugin. This displays the people who comment most on your blogs, on the sidebar. Again more social proof. In addition it is a way to thank your visitors. People can click on the top commentators, and go directly to their blog.
12. Commentluv
Commentluv is a way to give back to the people that take the time to comment on your blog. It puts their picture in and allows for them to put any post they want into the form. Others who view that comment now, have the ability to click on that person’s link.
13. NextGen Gallery
NextGEN Gallery is a full integrated Image Gallery plugin for WordPress with a Flash slideshow option.
14. Tiny MCE Advanced
This wordpress plugin allows you to have certain abilities while writing a new blog post that equate to writing in microsoft word. It gives you the ability to customize the look and feel of your blog posts.
15. WP Database backup
It is recommended that you keep 2 or 3 backup files for your wordpress database.
More Advanced WordPress Plugins
Advanced List of Plug-Ins:

Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not. You need a WordPress.com (not wordpress.org) API key to use it. You can review the spam it catches under “Comments.” To show off your Akismet stats just put <?php akismet_counter(); ?> in your template. See also: WP Stats plugin.
